The most anticipated event of the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) gets underway on Nov 4. The $10,000 WSOP Main Event is expected to have a massive turnout as the WSOP has extended the number of Day 1 flights in order to give international poker players a chance to travel to the United States.
The White House announced that it will lift its international travel ban on Nov 08 and the WSOP responded by keeping the Main Event open a bit longer so that international poker players can fly in and take part. This move will see the number of WSOP Main Event participants increase.
The WSOP Main Event hasn’t taken place for close to two years. The 2020 WSOP Main Event as a live poker tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19 while the 2021 WSOP was delayed from its usual May to June timeframe to Sep to Nov once again due to the pandemic.
The WSOP Main Event generally gets a strong response each year but with no WSOP Main Event action for nearly two years, the WSOP is counting on a strong turnout and is prepared to see some new records.
It’s hard to conclude just how many players will sign-up for the $10,000 WSOP Main Event. Conservative numbers based on the WSOP payout calculator suggest one could get up to 7,500 players which would create a prize pool of just under $70 million. If we were to go by this estimate, the minimum cashout would be $15,000 and 1,125 players will be guaranteed a payout.
The winner of the 2021 WSOP Main Event will walk away with a WSOP bracelet and approximately $8 million in prize money. If the 2021 WSOP Main Event exceeds those numbers and it goes past 8,000 or event 8,500, the WSOP Main Event winner is going to walk away with over $10 million in prize money.
WSOP Main Event Satellites
There is no shortage of players who are keen to be a part of the WSOP Main Event but coming up with the $10,000 buy-in is difficult for a lot of players. If you don’t have the bankroll, you should look at playing the numerous WSOP Main Event satellite events that started on Nov 3 and will run till Nov 08. These satellite events are taking place at the Rio.
