Daniel Negreanu, Canadian poker pro who is currently sponsored by PokerStars ran into a bit of trouble lately. While on his journey back from playing in the Aussie Millions, his email account was hacked. Having your email account broken into is bad enough, but the hacker did not stop there. Whoever took control of Negreanu’s account did it maliciously because after they hacked his email, they then logged into his PokerStars account and started playing…with Negreanu’s money. As soon as Negreanu was aware of the issue, he tweeted saying, “Important: Do NOT send me any emails the account appears to have been hacked. Just landed in LA nice news.”The hacker played over 400 hands on PokerStars and in the process lost almost $50k of Negreanu’s money. Players out there have a keen eye for pros like Daniel Negreanu and as soon as the hacker started playing, they knew something fishy was going on. On the 2+2 forums players immediately began talking about how Negreanu, or KidPoker as he is known on PokerStars, was playing a different style than they have ever seen. Some thought he was drunk or hungover, but it is now clear that he was hacked. The focus now must shift in the direction of PokerStars. While the $46k that was lost was probably not a huge deal to Negreanu I wonder if PokerStars will do anything to address the issue. Granted, it is not their fault he was hacked per se, but he is one of their biggest pros and one would think they might reimburse him. Keep in mind that him being hacked has nothing to do with the PokerStars network as it is some of the best in the business, this was simply a freak occurrence.
