Back in May 2020, Microgaming officially shut down its online poker network. News of the closure, which circulated as early as September 2019, left a lot of players disappointed, especially the loyal customers who stayed with the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) through ups and downs for more than 16 years.
MPN fans have something new to look forward to as Microgaming recently announced a new addition to its online gaming portfolio – a new poker game called “Hold’em Poker“.
Hold’em Poker is a multiplayer sit-n-go tournament with a buy-in of €5. It has a random prize pool generator, with a progressive jackpot of at least €25,000. Additionally, the new game comes with new avatars and a portrait table, and is also optimized for mobile use. The features essentially resemble that of MPN’s Fish Party SNGs.
Being marketed as a “sophisticated brand of classic Texas Hold’em“, Hold’em Poker promises to provide a “realistic poker room environment” which will take online casino experience to a whole new level.
New Direction For Microgaming
Microgaming may have permanently pulled the plug on its online poker network, but its latest move shows it isn’t abandoning the game completely. In a recent press release, the company said that Hold’em Poker would be the first in a “full suite of exclusive poker games” to be made available on the online platform.
Microgaming CEO John Coleman said the addition of poker games is aimed at providing players more choices as the company continues to diversify its content offering. Microgaming is a leading supplier of online gaming software to operators worldwide. By introducing Hold’em Poker, the company is opening up new possibilities, triggering a potential crossover between casino and poker fans.
Coleman said the new poker games will provide a fresh dimension to their online casino vertical, representing a new strategic direction for the company. The addition of the new poker product coincides with their goal of supplying their clients with a diversified online casino portfolio.
Hold’em Poker will initially launch on December 1 on select clients, and will be made available to all players on December 9. The fun and excitement will continue over the next few months as Microgaming is set to add some follow up games, such as “Lucky Showdown“, which is expected to be launched next, so stay tuned!
