Viktor “Isildur1” Blom may have lost for a second time against Isaac Haxton last week, but the high-stakes Swedish pro was back to his winning ways on Sunday. Blom defeated Alex “Kanu7” Millar in a $100/$200 heads-up no-limit hold’em match on PokerStars, ultimately winning by $37,687.As usual for the series, the match was played on four tables at a time, with a total of 2,500 hands set to be played. Both players were required to put up a $300,000 stake; the only way the match could end before the 2,500 hands were completed would be if one player lost their entire stake. In the early going, it appeared as though that might just happen to Millar. Blom was up over $68,000 after less than 200 hands, though Millar was able to claw back to even by the 500 hand mark. But once again, Blom would win big pots to take control of the match. Blom flopped a full house on a hand that would ultimately give Millar a flush by the river, resulting in a $77,000 pot that put Blom well in the lead.Though the lead would go back and forth a few more times, Blom would finally take control of the match in the second half. The high water mark for Blom occurred after 2,066 hands, when Blom’s lead had swelled to over $148,000. While Kanu staged an excellent comeback, there simply wasn’t enough time for him to win all of his money back, earning Blom a hard-fought victory. This was not the first time Blom and Millar had clashed at high stakes. While Millar is not one of the most famous poker players in the world, he is a regular in high-stakes online poker games, and had often played with Isildur1 in the past. The results of those encounters were similar to the outcome on Sunday: Blom had won about $160,000 from Millar in cash game play before the Showdown.
