Another key tournament has been added to the bustling poker summer schedule in Las Vegas, with BetMGM confirming the return of the BetMGM Poker Championship.
The ARIA Resort & Casino will once again play host to the action from June 9-13. The main attraction will be the $3,500 buy-in Main Event which now carries a massive guarantee of $2 million, double the guarantee of the inaugural event in 2022.
BetMGM Poker Championship Returns
As with last year, the 2023 BetMGM Poker Championship will run as part of the ARIA Poker Classic, with the $2 million-guaranteed Main Event headlining the series. The tournament kicks off on June 9 and will run until June 13 at ARIA’s Poker Room.
Players can enter through two Day 1 flights, but they have another option to secure a seat – via online satellites that will run on BetMGM Poker platforms in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ontario. The operator will be sending 100 players to the tournament via this route, and each will receive a free package that includes the $3,500 buy-in, travel expenses, and a six-night stay at ARIA (June 7-13).
In addition to that, online qualifiers will also get to compete in the $800 buy-in BetMGM Poker Mystery Bounty event which takes place on June 8, a day before the Main Event.
Luke Staudenmaier, BetMGM’s Director of Poker, said they’re happy to continue their partnership with MGM Resorts (ARIA’s parent company) for an exciting event that also gives BetMGM online players the chance to play at one of the best poker rooms in the United States.
MGM Resorts Director of Poker Strategy Sean McCormack is equally delighted to be working with the BetMGM team for the second year in a row for the Championship tournament. He said the event is a tremendous opportunity for the company to offer a one-of-a-kind experience to poker players.
Bigger Turnout Expected This Year
The inaugural BetMGM Poker Championship Main Event attracted a 343-entry field which was ultimately topped by American poker pro Joey Weissman who won the tournament for $224,236.
The turnout for this year’s event is expected to be much bigger, with the guarantee now doubled and BetMGM giving way packages to 100 online qualifiers. On top of that, the tournament is scheduled right in the middle of a busy summer of poker in Vegas, running alongside other major poker festivals, such as the World Series of Poker (WSOP), the Venetian DeepStack Championship, and the Wynn Summer Classic.
