The 2021 World Poker Tour (WPT) Montreal tournament will be moved online. The WPT confirmed in a press release that the popular Montreal tour will no longer take place at the Playground Poker Club in 2021 and will instead run as an online festival exclusively on partypoker.
This is just one of the latest live events to be moved online due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Just this week, PokerStars also launched an online edition of its flagship tour, the European Poker Tour, after a number of EPT stops were cancelled in the wake of the pandemic.
The 2021 WPT Online features a buy-in of $3,200, with $2 million in guaranteed prize money. Players may enter via two starting flights, both taking place on January 10 and 17. The two flights will involve more than 6 hours of action, equivalent to 18 levels of play (each level lasting 20 minutes). Day 1 survivors will meet again on Day 2, January 18, to play down to a champion.
Players also get the chance to win their way into the event for a more affordable price by participating in satellites for as low as $0.01. Another way to secure a seat in the tournament is via phased satellites, which only cost between $3 and $33 to enter. Apart from that, partypoker is also running $1.10 Tournament Dollar qualifiers, giving players plenty of options to take a shot at decent prizes and ultimately get their name etched on the prestigious Mike Sexton Cup.
WPT-partypoker Partnership Continues
This will be the seventh time that a WPT Champion will be crowned on partypoker as part of Season XVIII. The event is expected to once again attract a huge field, like what the previous WPT online tournaments achieved in the past few months. The 2021 WPT Montreal Online will also feature limited re-entries, and players will be required to use their real names.
Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour, said WPT Montreal Online will mark their first 2021 event in partnership with partypoker. Pliska said they are looking forward to continuing to work with the online poker site in future events.
John Duthie, partypoker LIVE president said he was happy to see WPT Montreal taking place on partypoker. This was also the stop where the late Mike Sexton won his WPT trophy back in 2016.
