The World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Tour ended 2023 on a high note with new records set.
The famous mid-major tour visited poker venues around the world throughout the year and ended up awarding over $22.7 million in total prize pool. Along the way, the tour managed to smash attendance records, with the 2023 WPT Prime Championship at Wynn Las Vegas attracting the largest field in WPT history.
2023 WPT Prime Tour – Key Stats
The 2023 WPT Prime Tour consisted of a total of 14 events held in 12 different countries. The schedule featured seven new live stops – Amsterdam, Aix-en-Provence, India, Liechtenstein, San Remo, Slovakia, and Paris. The schedule was further expanded with the addition of an online event hosted by WPT Global.
Across the 14 events held around the globe, the tour pulled in a total of 22,290 entries, with $22,734,998 in total prize money paid out. WPT Prime Paris ended up as the largest WPT event ever held in the French capital, attracting 1,071 entrants and generating over $1,000,000 in total prize pool. WPT Prime Liechtenstein also created a new record for the biggest event in Europe after drawing 1,644 entries.
To top it off, the WPT Prime Championship which ran in December at Wynn Las Vegas had 10,512 registrations, making it the biggest WPT event in history in terms of field size. The massive turnout generated $10,196,640 in total prize pool, more than double the $5 million guarantee. In the end, it was Calvin Anderson who lifted the prestigious championship trophy along with a $1,386,280 payout.
All in all, 8 of the 14 WPT Prime events in 2023 attracted more than 1,000 entries, including WPT Prime Gold Coast (1,224) and WPT Prime Taiwan (1,359).
There are six WPT Prime events announced for 2024 so far, all taking place during the first half of the year, beginning with a stop in Aix-en-Provence in February. The other confirmed events will take place in Amsterdam, Virgin Voyages Valliant Lady (WPT Prime Voyage), Slovakia, Gold Coast, and San Remo. The WPT is expected to add more stops in the months ahead.
WPT Passport Giveaway on ClubWPT
Meanwhile, players on ClubWPT will get the chance to secure a seat in WPT live events this year via a new membership level called “Super SATurdays” which allows players to take part in a freeroll satellite that awards WPT Passports.
The freeroll runs every Saturday, with the next tournament scheduled for January 27. To join, ClubWPT members only need to pay an additional $100 per month on top of their existing membership fee.
