GGPoker will play host to yet another major online poker festival this November.
Europe’s leading mid-sized buy-in live poker event, the Battle of Malta, will take place on GGPoker from November 1 to 22, guaranteeing a massive $3 million in prize money.
The festival is among numerous live poker events that had to be moved to the virtual felts as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Organizers have yet to release the full schedule of this year’s Battle of Malta, but it’s been confirmed that a $550 buy-in Main Event will headline the festival, and for the first time, international players will be able to take part without leaving their homes, easing the burden on players from far-away places who traditionally had to travel to Malta to participate.
The Battle of Malta has been running since 2012 and has grown to become one of the most highly-anticipated poker events in Europe. Casino Malta has been the official venue of action, however this year the live event had to be dropped as the threat of the COVID-19 lingers.
Organizers instead linked up with GGPoker to continue the action, and the General Manager of Casino Malta Slawomir Switalski couldn’t be happier. He said they’re excited to partner with a “prestigious” brand and look forward to hosting a “very special” Battle of Malta live in 2021.
GGPoker’s Director of Live Events John Scanlon is equally excited for the partnership, expressing confidence that the 2020 Battle of Malta will be “bigger and better“.
In 2019, the live poker festival drew a total of 4,567 entries, and ended up awarding over $2.3 million in total prize money. Organizers are hopeful that the upcoming online event will be equally successful, despite the changes that had to be made due to the global health crisis.

The new collaboration resulting in another big live festival being hosted on GGPoker is testament to the online poker room’s growing popularity. The online platform is quickly building a reputation for securing major partnerships with premier poker brands. It recently played host to the 2020 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online Bracelet Series, paying out nearly $150 million in cash prizes, a new record in WSOP’s long and rich history.
In 2019, GGPoker worked with Triton Poker and became the official sponsor of the Triton Million, the biggest buy-in tournament ever. It is represented by an excellent roster of ambassadors which include Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu, and current all-time money list leader Bryn Kenney.
