Online poker has recently become a hot topic in the world of motion pictures, with one film about to be released and another with a cast of stars slated to reach theaters in 2013. Both of these films will take a look at the triumphs and challenges found in the world of internet gambling, albeit from different directions.First, there’s All-In: The Poker Movie, a documentary slated for digital download and DVD released on April 24. All-In has already had several screenings and has been receiving generally positive reviews. The film covers the events of Black Friday, as well as general information on the online poker industry and the poker boom that took the world by storm over the last decade. The main star of All-In is Chris Moneymaker, the amateur poker player who won a $39 online poker satellite and managed to take that win all the way to the World Series of Poker Main Event championship, starting a wave of interest in tournament poker that still exists today. The film covers the so-called “Moneymaker effect,” as well as the way professional poker has changed in recent years (both before and after Black Friday). But if a documentary – even one on a topic as interesting as poker – doesn’t excite you, there are other online poker projects in store as well. It seems that Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) is set to direct a film called Runner, Runner, which will star Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake. The film, which is being produced by New Regency, is all about the world of online gambling.Runner, Runner was written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who were responsible for the popular poker film Rounders. While there has been much speculation that the two might be working on a Rounders sequel, it doesn’t appear that the new film will have any connection to that movie. While details are scanty on Runner, Runner, it appears that production of the film is expected to begin later this year in Puerto Rico.
