The company has announced the signing of UFC champion Georges St-Pierre to their Team 888poker, bringing one of the world’s top fighters to represent them on both the virtual and physical felt.“I’m very excited to become a global brand ambassador for Team 888poker,” said St-Pierre. “I have wanted to play poker or a while now as it is a great game of skill. It is not just your cards versus my cards; it is you versus your opponent.”While St-Pierre hopes to learn a little bit about poker and also help promote the 888.com brand name during his 12-month contract with the site, his real goal is to raise awareness and funds for his charitable foundation.“The most important aspect of my partnership with 888 Poker is that we are going to generate a great deal of money for my foundation that dedicates its efforts toward anti-bullying causes,” St-Pierre said. In the past, St-Pierre has admitted to having been bullied as a child, making the issue all the more important to him.Perhaps the highlight of St-Pierre’s arrangement with 888 Poker is the fact that the deal will see him play at the World Series of Poker Main Event. In addition, an 888 Poker press release said that he will be playing at several other live events, along with special promotion on 888 Poker itself which will raised funds for anti-bullying charities.Georges St-Pierre – better known to much of the mixed martial arts community as GSP – is the current Welterweight Champion of the UFC. The French Canadian from Quebec, Canada is considered by many to be one of the top pound-for-pound MMA fighter in the world, and has won Rogers Sportsnet’s Canadian Athlete of the Year award three times. He currently boasts a professional record of 22-2.
